The Small Business Association reported that there was a 57% increase in the number of new businesses in the U.S. between 1982 and 1996. The number of small businesses is expected to continue to increase as new opportunities for entrepreneurs arise. This is in response to the high-tech and service revolutions and also in response to more individuals finding new opportunities to experiment in changing careers. The majority of these are owned by women.
