How Reliable and Valid Is MAPP?
MAPP does not ask a person’s age, gender, race, or any other personal information. The assessment is completely non-biased. Assessment responses are the sole consideration used to determine motivations and learning potential.
Tests that measure the reliability of MAPP show that 71% of test takers give the same responses to each triad when they are retested as they did on the original test. Furthermore, the outcome of the reliability, which is what was really being measured, proved to be 95%. Even though many of the triads are difficult to answer, the responses are weighted in such a way that one response may affect many areas of the assessment. This makes it very difficult to fool the assessment.
The construct validity between MAPP and the Strong Interest Inventory looked at the occupational matches between the two systems. The study found that matches ranged from .50 to .92 with a median correlation of .67.
